Jakarta's Problems
A combination of events led to the bringing together of my photographs from late 1992 and the images of my son visiting Jakarta from work in late 2023, and the appearance of a newspaper article in the dutch NRC on 26 February 2024 titled: Without a Delta Plan, Jakarta is heading for disaster. My images and those of my son illustrate the article and were all taken in northern Jakarta.

Because I saw in November 2020 Audun Amundsen's Film Newtopia on a German channel , I went to find out all about it, but also about my trip to the Mentawai on Siberut 9 years earlier. In this presentation all the pictures from then in a row until my camera fell in the water. His film was for me in many ways a re-experience of what I experienced there.

Langa used to be the most beautifully structured township followed by Nyanga Who put scraps in Langa and what do Langa people say about their location. Yooh! this looks like some people are out there to distroy Cape Town and I am sure that Langa is run by municipality of ANC. I attended high school here at Langa high years ago. There wasn't even chicken paddock. Now there are scraps and dirt all over the place. Whoever bought dirt amongst the people must be arrested, and the scraps must be destroyed far away from people. Haibo ikapa liphenduka ishacks and scraps yard city kubukelwe. Find ways to stop this. Or find open field a distance away from people for scrap yard and surround it with razor wire.

Ik herinner me dat Status Quo minstens een half uur te laat begon onder een hels fluitconcert maar toen de tent binnen 5 minuten op de kop had staan en een toegift van pakweg een half uur gaf. Geweldige sfeer !!
